Being on lockdown has definitely expanded my Korean drama library, and once that passes, I’m eager to travel to Korea. As a die-hard Korean drama fan, I’m always on the lookout for filming locations to add to my travels. Why would I miss the opportunity to walk, talk and breathe in a place where Hyun Bin or Park Seo Joon have been? (Well, not exactly, but you get my drift).
Aside from the usual cherry blossom gardens, there are many filming locations in Korea that can be explored year-round. Here are 13 unique Korean drama filming locations that will add more culture and flavor to your next trip to Korea.
1) Taean-gun – a fictional Korean village

“Travel” through the DMZ, visit their homes and enter the lives of Captain Ri and the brave villagers. The North Korean village in CLOY, located in Taean County, is the setting of a film recently opened to the public.
With the help of defectors living in Korea, the production attempts to recreate the North Korean village as accurately as possible. The design and details of the fictional village will give you an immersive experience of what it is like to live in one of the world’s most secretive countries.

How to get there: 3 hours by cab from Seoul to Moseokwon pension house, then enter the scene behind the house
Update: A reader just told us that this village has been demolished since late February ?
2) Yongsan-gu, Seoul – Itaewon
Korean drama: Itaewon Class

“It feels like you’re in a foreign country. Everyone there seems so free.” – Jo Yi-Seo
As the name of the drama suggests, Itaewon is the main filming location for Itaewon Class. The vibrant neighborhood is as dynamic and diverse as the show portrays it.
As Jo Yi-Seo says, Itaewon is different from other parts of Seoul because it makes you feel like you are in another country. The once rundown area is now called “Western Town,” so you won’t have to worry about the Korean language, as there are many people who speak English.
The best time to see Itaewon is at night when it comes alive. We recommend exploring the lively streets and visiting the Golden Oriole. This is the second DanBam restaurant bar Seroeyi has opened. End the night with dinner and drinks on the rooftop and enjoy the view!
