I believe that everyone is curious about whales, which are huge creatures in the sea, spouting water, standing upside down, or leaping up, and are very exciting and attractive. However, whale watching usually requires a boat ride to the depths of the ocean in order to follow the whale’s trail. It would be perfect if there was a place where you could see whales up close without having to take a boat out to sea! There is one such place in South Africa where you can see whales up close from the shore: Hermanus.
Nearly two hours away from Cape Town, Hermanus is a small town by the sea. The town is perched on a cliff by the sea, with European-style houses situated on both sides of a winding coastal road. In front of the houses, the grass is green and the pines and cypresses cover the area, making it a peaceful and beautiful paradise on earth.
The bay of Hermanus is a perfect place for whales to mate and breed, as the water is warm and the wind and waves are not too strong. Therefore, every year from July to December, nine species of whales living in the southern hemisphere migrate from far away to Hermanus Bay to nurse their young. This unique location and climate makes Hermanus the only place in the world where you can watch whales right from the shore!
Interesting experience You can see a lot of whales here that are hard to see elsewhere: sometimes the whales will swim a few dozen meters from the shore and show you a few air leaps, water handstands, and fan-like tail blows.
