The MyFAK first aid kit excels in managing severe injuries in harsh environments. This pre-assembled kit demonstrates outstanding capability in treating significant blood loss, owing to several tools included that are uncommon in other kits we’ve tested. Furthermore, its professional-grade tools set it apart from many competitors. However, the MyFAK isn’t for everyone, being rather heavy, pricey, and containing supplies that may be unfamiliar to the average person. Nevertheless, we still rate it as the best choice for “base camp use”, meaning it’s highly suitable for remote field stations, jeeps, motorhomes, or construction sites. We tested the MyFAK Basic Edition. An Advanced Edition exists, but we do not recommend it as it contains numerous items requiring advanced training (such as holding EMT, paramedic, or medical practitioner certification) to use.
Quality
The MyFAK first aid kit ranks among the finest quality kits we have tested. Its storage case is crafted from high-strength ballistic nylon, featuring a well-organised interior layout that facilitates rapid retrieval of required items. The contents comprise premium-grade materials, including multiple reputable pharmaceutical brands. Particularly noteworthy are the EMT-grade trauma shears, digital thermometer, and mouldable finger splints.MyMedic claims its scissors can cut through a penny, and indeed they do! The wound care supplies are well proportioned and sealed within a convenient, easy-access pouch. We particularly appreciate the inclusion of liquid skin and anti-chafing patches in the kit, further demonstrating this is a practical toolkit designed for a variety of real-world applications. Should these products be included, they are undoubtedly top-tier quality, and we found no cause for concern that might affect the use of this kit.
Variety
While some first-aid kits stock hundreds of small bandages, they may lack essential supplies for more serious emergencies. Not so with the MyMedic kit. Upon opening it, our first impression was that despite its compact size and light weight, the contents are remarkably well-curated. Where are the piles of plasters and disposable ice packs? While a kit containing hundreds of items might appear more practical, we felt more confident that the MyFAK could handle a wide variety of emergencies. Indeed, it contains sufficient supplies to manage minor wounds—including sterile saline solution for rinsing, a crucial step in cleaning wounds outdoors—but it also includes items for treating more severe bleeding, such as elastic pressure bandages.
The kit contains a roll of high-quality adhesive tape, along with blister plasters and liquid bandages for treating blisters – making it one of the finest kits for addressing such common hiking ailments. Furthermore, it includes a survival blanket and whistle for added practicality. While this kit does feature an 82-page first aid and survival guide, it is only available as an e-book download, rendering it rather inconvenient for consultation in the field. We would have preferred a printed version, which, while adding some weight, would offer far greater ease of reference.
Versatility
From minor cuts and grazes to more serious injuries, this first-aid kit is equipped to handle it all. It contains supplies for managing heavy bleeding, splints and slings for immobilising fractured fingers or dislocations, pressure bandages for stabilising sprains and strains, and other high-quality tools, making it our recommended choice for an efficient and versatile first-aid kit.
This first-aid kit is rather heavy and bulky, making it unsuitable for carrying on short day trips. It is best suited for extended journeys or situations where weight is not a concern, such as boat trips, or when travelling in off-road vehicles or lorries.
The smaller tear-away pouches can hold bandages, a CPR mask and adhesive tape, creating a pocket-sized first aid kit for short trips when you prefer not to carry the full kit.
Durability
The MyFAK first aid kit is crafted from robust, durable ballistic-grade nylon, ensuring long-lasting performance. The contents are not only effectively protected against external weather conditions, but each set of supplies is housed within a sturdy sealed pouch. This design minimises the risk of deterioration even if the kit becomes damp.
The internal organisation allows precise retrieval of required items, avoiding the need to empty the entire contents as with some other kits, thereby preventing damage to packaging and compromising sterility. Our sole concern is the kit’s limited durability, as its over-the-counter medicines have varying expiry dates – for instance, the antihistamine tablets expire just seven months after purchase. Users should always monitor their medication’s shelf life and conduct annual checks, though this seems an avoidable oversight.

Weight
The MyMedic first aid kit weighs 30 ounces (approximately 850 grams). This is notably heavier than some lighter kits better suited for day hikes or short trips. However, we believe it’s precisely this weight and bulk that make it versatile and highly practical, as the high-quality contents it contains will assist you far more effectively in extreme emergencies than those smaller kits.
It isn’t the heaviest or bulkiest first aid kit we’ve reviewed. While its scores in these categories are lower, its exceptional practicality is noteworthy. Therefore, if your activities require advanced injury treatment and you won’t be carrying this kit constantly, its weight and bulk scores needn’t be a major concern.
Is the MyMedic MyFAK worth buying?
This ranks among our favourite heavy-duty first aid kits. It features premium supplies, organised storage, robust construction, and delivers powerful, efficient utility. Whilst not inexpensive, it offers excellent value for money. If you seek a high-quality, pre-assembled kit capable of handling diverse emergencies, the MyFAK is certainly worthy of consideration. We highly recommend keeping it in your car, motorhome, or even packing it in your rucksack for multi-day hikes with a large group.
