Fans of Korean dramas should have heard of these neighborhoods in Seoul. Wondering what has changed since our last visit, we explored some of:<\/p>\n

Myeong-dong (Myeongdong)<\/p>\n

\nIs Myeongdong turning into a ghost town? That was the first question that came to our mind as we explored this popular shopping district.<\/p>\n

The answer: not exactly.<\/p>\n

While the crowds are much smaller and some stores are closed, the underground shopping center is still open, selling clothing, beauty products and K-pop merchandise.<\/p>\n

*Pro tip: If you live in the area and are looking for an affordable dinner spot, head to Auntie’s Gopchang restaurant (\uc774\ubaa8\ub124 \uacf1\ucc3d) for some delicious pork sausage.<\/p>\n

Ssangmun-dong (Ssangmun-dong)<\/p>\n

You may have missed Ssangmun-dong before the popular Korean drama “Squid Game” (\uc624\uc9d5\uc5b4 \uac8c\uc784) took the world by storm.<\/p>\n

But if you’re a fan of “Squid Game,” you’ll find two iconic filming locations in the neighborhood.<\/p>\n

The first is the Ssangmun Yecheon branch of the CU convenience store chain, where Ki-hoon (player #456) and Il-nam (player #001) share a bottle of soju.<\/p>\n

Secondly, you can also find a fish stall run by Sang-woo’s (contestant #218) mother at the nearby Baiyun Market. You won’t want to miss these places, as photos of the show are proudly displayed in the store.<\/p>\n

Interesting fact: “Squid Game” is set in Sang-mun-dong because it mimics the life of creator Hwang Dong-hyuk, who grew up there.<\/p>\n
