The National Museum of Egypt is one of the world’s most famous museums and home to one of the world’s largest collections of ancient Egyptian treasures.<\/p>\n

Founded in 1858, the museum is a quaint two-story brick and red building near Cairo’s Tahrir Square, housing 250,000 artifacts with a history spanning thousands of years. — The most famous are the precious artifacts unearthed from Tutankhamun’s tomb,<\/p>\n

the statues of kings Khufu, Hafra and Menkara (owners of the three pyramids); the solid gold petal-like crowns of the princesses of the Twelfth Dynasty; the mummy of Ramses II, and more.<\/p>\n

To visit the museum, hire a guide or buy a guidebook and tour on your own time. There are enough historical treasures to keep you occupied for hours, and some Egyptian archaeologists can wander for days.<\/p>\n

Note: The Royal Mummy Gallery on the 2nd floor of the museum requires additional tickets at EGP 100 for adults and half price for students, and free mummies are available on the 2nd floor in the “Greco-Roman Mummies Exhibition” on the right.<\/p>\n
